S Is For Spoiled

11:45 p.m. / 23:45

I confess... my cat Mabel is quite spoiled. She has a mighty collection of little cat balls to chase around. A month or so ago I bought her a couple of dog toys too because she's kind of dog-like sometimes. She really loves her rope bone.

Maybe She Should Wear It

8:53 p.m. / 20:53

Maybe Mabel should wear my Summer Reading T-shirt since she seems to like it so much. I'm not that fond of it myself. I am, however, quite fond of the Summer Reading Program, which is now in full-swing. Right now reading and yard work are taking priority over blogging, but you know I can't stay away from here forever!

Sometimes Mabel Thinks She's People

10:15 a.m. / 10:15

I frequently find Mabel in my bed spreading her kitty hair all over my sheets. The day I took this picture, she was laying right between the top of the covers and the pillows, like she was waiting for someone to come tuck her in. Do you think my mom is right? Should, after all these years of protesting the notion, start making my bed everyday?

For the record, I've been making an effort to try and blog about things that are not Mabel. So if you're getting tired of Mabel posts, I'm working on it. But isn't she adorable?

More Mabel

7:30 a.m. / 07:30

This week has been all about Mabel. Perhaps some people are tired of hearing about my cat, but other than going to work and other day-to-day routine, my week has really revolved around Mabel because of her surgeries. Last night she had me worried because it looked like she had spent the whole day while I was at work washing the area on her tummy that's stitched up because I wasn't here to tell her not to. I thought I might have to take her back in today, but it looks a little better this morning and she's certainly acting fine. She's sitting complacently in the papazon chair right now, which is a little odd, but she seemed more like her self when we first got up this morning. I kind of like that I get to hold her pretty much anytime I'm not doing something like dishes, laundry or eating, but it will be nice to see her running around all crazy again. That's when I'll know she's really feeling better.

Mabel Is Home

11:30 a.m. / 11:30

Mabel is home now. I'm pretty sure the wrong doctor took out her front claws (and spayed her), but she seems to be doing well. She's calmer and sleepier than normal, but that's expected. She's asleep here on my lap. She was purring, but I think she's really asleep now. I've held her almost since we got home, around 10:45, but soon I'll have to go to work. I think Mabel and I are in total agreement for maybe the first time-- that was rough, we're glad it only has to be done once, and isn't it great that Mabel's home now!

Absense Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

10:59 p.m. / 22:59

It's actually true sometimes. Mabel has been really rotten* the past few days, but tonight she's staying over at the veterinarians' office and I miss her and I'm a little worried about her. I'm wondering if I stood up for her properly today. She was originally scheduled to be spayed yesterday, but I called a week ago and told them I had made a decision on de-clawing-- that I wanted to go ahead and do it, but I wanted a specific doctor who's supposed to be really good at it (she was actually recommended by one of the other veterinarians in the same office). They said Tuesday is her surgery day, so Mabel's appointment was moved to today. When I took her in today, a doctor who was not the doctor I requested saw her. I'm wishing I asked if he would be doing the surgery, or if the other doctor would be doing it like I asked. It'll probably be on the paperwork tomorrow when I pick her up, but then it will have been done and what point will there be in fussing? I'll be pissed, but they can't re-do a de-claw. I haven't been feeling great about having her de-clawed, and knowing that that particular veterinarian was supposed to do it was one of the only things making me feel better. Anyway, I'm going to be glad to have her home tomorrow and I hope all of this won't be too traumatic for her. She was shaking when we first got in the office today, but she'd calmed down by the time I left. I'm being silly; she'll be fine.

*rotten = hanging from the living room curtains, fighting me when I unhooked her from the curtains and unrolling the toilet paper in the bathroom when I put her in there for a few minutes to chill out, plus other miscellaneous mischief

Cat Owners Aren't Supposed To Have This Problem

7:33 a.m. / 07:33

While I slept last night, adorable little Mabel got into the paperwork left on my desk and chewed the corner off of my mortgage statement; the part of it I have to send in with my payment.

Mabel

2:00 p.m. / 14:00

Mabel is hard to photograph. She is in almost constant motion, and when she does decide to slow down and take it easy for a little bit, she's usually on my lap. She's lived with me for very nearly a month now, and I have finally managed to get a few pictures of her.
