Holiday
8:20 p.m. / 20:20
It is still the Christmas season. People seem to find it a little odd that I still have my tree up and I'm still listening to Christmas music. There are more Christmas books on the shelves at work now than there were on December 1st... because everyone thinks Christmas ended last Thursday. Everyone's tired of Christmas, because they dove into it more than a month ago. I'd be tired of it after a month too. How did I end up the backwards person? Okay, I'm often the backwards person, but how in the case of Christmas? You know those 12 days of Christmas? Well, they're going on right now. The first day of the 12 days of Christmas is Christmas Day. So this is the Christmas season. Yet, I when I fuss about people putting up lights Thanksgiving weekend, I'm being a Scrooge or a Grinch. It isn't that I don't like Christmas or that I only want to celebrate it on the one day, it's just that I don't want to start celebrating while people are still eating Thanksgiving leftovers. It is not yet Christmas then! Christmas lasts until Epiphany; the day the three wise men supposedly arrived in Bethlehem to see the baby Jesus. I will not leave my decorations up all of the way until then, but I see no reason to take them down right now. I also see no reason to stop listening to Christmas music, although I doubt I'll do that more than a few more days. Oh, but Christmas parties / gatherings / celebrations of any type? I am so done with them. It is, however, still the Christmas season for a few more days.
