"The thing about love is, you don't get to choose," Suze said. "You just wake up one day, and there it is, sitting at the foot of your bed, going 'nyah, nyah, gotcha,' and there's not a damn thing you can do about it."
--from Fast Women by Jennifer Crusie
"Some people go to priests; others to poetry; I to my friends."

Summer Reading Update
3:15 a.m. / 03:15
Let's see... when I last went rambling about what I read, I was just starting Catcher in the Rye. I confess I got sick of it and stopped reading it. Next came Wide Sargasso Sea by Jane Rhys. I gave up on that one too, although it's likely I'll come back to it later.
I think the next book I actually managed to read cover-to-cover is Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones' Diary. It was good, and I still love the movie. You know, I'm actually starting to reconsider my practice of always wanting to read a given book before I see the movie based on the book.
Speaking of books that are made into movies, I followed Bridget Jones with The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. I've now read The Second Summer of the Sisterhood and I am about to finish Girls in Pants: The Third Summer of the Sisterhood. They're not the greatest books ever written, but they are fun and I've decided they're definatly worth the short time it takes to get through each book.
Somewhere in the middle of all the Sisterhood books, I started Nick Hornby's newest novel, A Long Way Down. I haven't actually finished it yet, but it's good so far. I like the format-- the four main characters take turns telling the story in first-person narration. My only complaint is the plot really moves a little slow for me sometimes.
In the middle of all of that, I had to make time for the sixth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (by J. K. Rowling, of course).
I've been reading collections of the following comics: Get Fuzzy, by Darby Conley; Pearls Before Swine, by Stephan Pastis and Liberty Meadows, by Frank Cho. Comic collections are great for times when you don't want to get sucked in by a plot.
Oh, yeah, and somewhere in there I also read the latest Stephanie Plum novel, Eleven on Top, by Janet Evanovich.

Back Online!
2:03 p.m. / 14:03
I've finally gotten my own computer online again. This could lead to more-frequent updates of this very blog. No promises, though.
